Mother has recently bought a new computer. Two things:

There's a programme on there ready installed that allows you to "save" your system at a safe point. However, it's over 1000mb in size. Will this slow the computer down?

I've been setting the initial stuff up for her, but if would only download 28 of the 53 windows updates. I went to the Windows website to try and download these updates from there, to no avail. One of the updates was IE7.

    Solutions?

    Thanks.

First, what kind of computer is it, and what are its specs? (amount of RAM, processor, size of the hard drive, etc.) Now, as far as the restore feature, since it's less than a gig in size, that shouldn't affect speed at all. As for the updates from Microsoft, since I've never had that problem with my own system, I don't know what to tell you on that, except contact Microsoft and see what their solution(s) is(are).

I installed XP on a Dell once that needed the "Access data sources across domains" setting in Internet Options set to prompt for Windows Update to work (Unknown Error 0x80080299) make sure BITS and Automatic Updates are running in services also, start, run, services.msc. (I don't use IE 7 as other software on system already does the job, and personally don't like the toolbar, with IE 6 I get everything on one line). Sounds like she is running Vista, although may still apply. Unfortunately the devil is in the details.:tas

Yeah, that's definitely true. Never thought that it may be the IE settings. If you are using IE, I'd recommend that you use another browser, like Mozilla Firefox, or maybe even Opera. You don't have to worry about those settings in either of those browsers. I personally use Firefox, and except for the few bugs here and there (they just recently updated to their 2nd version, and it's a teeny bit buggy at the moment, with regular updates that come up) I have no problems with it. I've used both, and never had any complaints about either one. Both, as well as other browsers you might wanna try as well, are downloadable here on MajorGeeks at this location:

Hopefully, it is something as simple as that. But, if you are hellbent on using Internet Explorer, BUGBALLOU had the answer right there.
