Hey there. I'd like to say that I hope this is the correct place to post this. If not, I am very sorry. Here goes!

I am building a new computer and would like some advice from all of you even geekier (I use that term lovingly) people out there. There are a few questions.

    1. These are the things that I need and the hardware that I am thinking of getting. Does everything check out? Could something of (close to) equal price be changed out for higher performance?

    Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
    ASUS P5K-V
    SAPPHIRE 100196L Radeon X1950PRO
    PNY XLR8 2GB (2 x 1GB)

    2. What size of a power supply should I need? I have one but if I need a bigger one it isnt a big deal.

    3. I have a sound card (SoundBlaster X-Fi) and an optical drive (DVD burner) and hard drives. If I replace the hard drives with more cache, will the I notice a change in performance (the HDDs are 7200 but with 2 MB cache)

    4. I am reusing the sound card, HDDs, power supply, and case. Is there anything I'm missing? Any other thoughts you might have?

Thank you for your help. It is a big decision for me and I really don't want to eff it up.

I prefer Corsair ram, but that's personal preference.

Picked my 2gb set up for £120 (not sure if you're US or UK!).

It looks a good setup, I got myself an 8600gtx graphics card though and stretched a bit more from the x1950.

If that's not possible then you have a good setup :)

With regards to power supply, any big brand is best (again personal preference). I'm running a similar setup and using a 480w Hiper PSU. It puts out considerabley less power when compared to other brands but it's a good quality PSU so therefore can perform better than say a standard 600W.
