I am being a little proactive here. I have a dsl modem and wireless
router (D-Link) at home. I am replacing my desktop with a new one next week. I am pretty certain I can just plug the modem into my new computer and it should work but am not sure if I can do the same with the router. I need some advice here. Should I ignore the router when I install the new desktop and do the router later and install the D-Link software or can I simnply plug everything in? Thanks

Well, wait! Don't plug the modem into the computer. You should not mess with the modem, or the connection between the modem and router. You simply need to attach your new computer to the router, pick up a new IP from the router, and surf away. The modem settings do not change simply because you are getting a new computer.
