    Hello

I am going to buy a new desktop computer and I am looking for some help about what to buy/

I have wireless internet AND I can connect to my wireless router. I assume connecting will give me a better speed. but does that matter about what computer I buy? whether I use the little USB insert to enable internet connection or if I actually connect to my router?

My guess was yes, I thought(this is where I need some imput) that when I use the little USB wireless connector, I also use some of my bandwiith? so when I use my laptop or play HULU on my TV , I'd have less "internet"

this is why I'd prefer to disconnect my desktop from the internet when I'm not using it.

    is that right?

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

If the PC is close enough to the router, it's easier and less expensive to use an Ethernet cable versus Wi-Fi. Unless you're using an top speed (ab) Wi-Fi router and adapter, the cable is normally faster.

If your Internet browser is closed and no software/Windows updates are downloading, the amount of bandwidth used is practically nil. As such, it will not make a difference if the desktop PC is connected to the router or not.
