new cpu for motherboard

    my motherboard is a p4s8x, and has an intel 1.7ghz cpu....
    bus speed 400/533
    what is the top cpu i can put in this motherboard?
    the website says 2.53ghz, but the cmos says 3.0+ in options
    it also has the ability to overclock, which i am hesitant to do
    thanks for any insight into this matter.
