You must seat the CPU in the motherboard socket in the correct orientation first!
Orientation is governed by the many pins beneath your chip, meaning that they are configured in such a way with the socket, that your CPU will only seat correctly, in one correct way.
When properly orientated, the CPU should slip into the socket fairly easily.
Don't use any extra force here as you risk damaging (bending) the pins and possibly ruining your new CPU.
Once seated correctly, lock in place with 'the bar' and attach your heatsink and fan, remembering to plug the fan into the mobo!

And don't forget that thermal paste and take measures to isolate ESD!

    Regards

Welcome to the forum Brucieh:)You really need to start your own thread here in the hardware forum,if the motherboard isnt recocnising the cpu off the bat,you may be able get around by a simple cmos reset or by removing the cmos battery,if you'v adjusted any bios settings you may have to reset them so make a note,if this doesnt work you may have to either set up the cpu values in bios according to your motherboard and cpu,if this doesnt work you may need to update your bios to accept the new cpu

If you need to start a thread include as much information as possible about your computer, use either aida32 everest or sandra available in downloads, Welcome:)
