I have a new Dell, haven't hooked it all up yet. It has MS Office Basic, which I believe includes MS Outlook for email. I have been using Outlook Express on my dinosaur computer from 1998. Seeking advice on most effective way to tranfer emails in OE to Outlook. I was thinking of burning the appropriate OE files to a CD, then bringing them to the new machine by using the import emails function I believe Outlook has. I am thinking I can import by mapping to the CD in the D drive, thus importing OE emails into Outlook. Anything I need set straight on, or better suggestions, please let me know.

Your New Dell Will Have Outlook Express as well, Its an Integral Embeded Programme with XP.

Other Wise it becomes a Problems since Outlook Express Stores Files in the *.dbx File Extension, and MS Outlook Stores in *.pst File Extension.

Its a better Idea to use Outlook Express.

Simply Becoz if you have OE you will get some support from Most ISP's when needed, but if MS Outlook is there then you would get a run around between Dell, Microsoft, ISP.....!
Apart from this the transfer of mail folders from old comp to this one would be a simple task ... !

IF you want to use MS outlook:

    1. Import the dbx and wab files into OE ( http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q270670 )

    2. Open ms outlook, go to file-> import/export, choose "import internet mail and addresses", point it at Outlook Express, follow the wizard.

Incidentally, this is a good way to get around the lack of ISP support for MS Outlook- get them to get Outlook Express working then import the results. :)
