new dsl connection problems

i've recently subscribed to sbc dsl they sent me a 'speedstream 4100' dsl modem with an installation cd. the cd hangs during the installation. the tech support with sbc said i could manually configure a connection, his instructions aren't working. when i use the command prompt ipconfig there is a message for my ethernet connection:
connection specific dns suffix : domain_not_set.invalid
description:via rhine II fast ethernet adapter

etc. etc.
is there anything you can think of?

Thats fine, that error happens with that modem type, first what lights are on yoour modem and are lite?

 

Actually do not use the install CD, which is nothing but garbage. You can set up a New user account at

thanks for your help, i agree sbc's install cd is...junk. however, mine was an operator error. i just stumbled on the answer. my internet options wasn't set correct.
