I just unplugged my old cd drive and plugged in a new dvd burner (power and IDE):

the dvd drive can read data, but when I put in an audio cd, it reads it as some random .cda files that don't run. Also with any cd that I put in, the autoplay doesn't work.

I ran and installed the firmware for the dvd drive, but under my computer, it still says CD Drive E: when it should be DVD drive.

Is there something that I am missing or doing wrong?

Double click my computer, right click the drive, properties, there you can set auto play, under hardware there is a trouble shooter, you might try restarting again. ed

I'd also try openning my computer, right-clicking the problem drive, properties, autoplay, music cd, select an action to perform, play audio cd using WMP, ok.

    Insert music cd.

under the autoplay tab, i can select music cd/music files/pictures etc.
but when I select it, under the Action to Perform, there is nothing to click ( no choices in the box).

I dont think you are doing anything wrong, unhook the ide cable from the drive.[ after a shut down ] Start pc back up, shut down again. hook up ide cable again, be sure it is on good at both ends, start back up again, if it dont reconize it now, my guess is its bad, are you sure you used the right firmware flash? Is there a chance that you are using the old ide cable,?

The last thing i can think of is check the pins on the back of the dvd-rom, where the ide plugs in, you more than likely didnt bend any, but just to be sure, take a look. ed

 Hi. Just an idea here. Is the new dvd drive set up as a master on the second ide channel? There is a chance that your old cd drive was a slave on the primary channel. Might be worth a try. Good night and good luck.
