New DVD Drives not working

A friend of mine has a Dell Dimension 2350, He Just had 1 CD drive in it .I gave him 2 DVD drives (new )to install in it.They are installed and recognized.But they will not play a DVD, In WMP or Real Player.I think he said something about the codes. We're doing this over the phone. I read the post in software "help with win.Media player" I sent him the link that Just Playin had in his the post. Is there any thing else i'm missing or that I need to do.I have a CD that came with one of the DVD Drives Would that have the codes he needs for WMP and Real Player .I've done this before and don't remember haveing these problems. Can you play music cd's in these drives ok?It could be video codecs that are missing.Is it attempting to play.I use VLC Media Player That plays almost anything Codec wise.Do you have a driver conflict(yellow mark) when you look in device manager?
You said you installed 2 DVD Roms Do you have the jumpers on one set to Master and on the other DVD Rom slave?They both could be set to cable select and that is causing a problem.

 

What you need to play Dvd;s on Windows Media player are certain codecs like the one Just playin linked to or Some Type of Dvd program like Power Dvd. I think Once he gets the codec installed he will be fine.

 

Thanks for the replys, Yes they are hooked upright sorry I didn't say that in first post.I do have a copy of Power DVD I'm not using guess I'll give that to him. He hasn't called today yet so I'll let ya all know what happens. Thanks again Chuck
