New ECS Mainboard having audio issues

Looking for advice on an audio issue.

I just installed a ECS P4M800 Board and P4 processor 1 gig memory into an old case. The main board came with its own installation software.

After I installed WinXP I noticed there were no sound drivers. I quickly installed the realtek audio driver found on the installation CD.

Well, that worked and I had sound. The only problem is that with the WinXP volume control at MAX I get about half of the amount of volume that I had originally got out of the same speakers when running on my older much slower PC (HP 466 mhz).

Is there any possibility the audio controller on the mainboard was damaged on the installation? If it were damaged would it be giving me the problem it has been giving me.

Its an integrated sound deviceby the way.

Realtek AC '97 audio for VIA [R] Audio controller - Driver date 7/22/05.

Hopefully I can get this resolved. I've tried just about all I know.

 

VIA usually has a control panel of its own, see if you can find it in the control panel. Start, control panel. ed

 

Yes, the AC97 audio configuration panel is available. I have used it with no luck. I'm beginning to think there is something wrong with my speakers.

Atleast I can hear something.

 

If you are reading this I've figured out the problem. It turns out to be my speaker system. I have a bad pair of speakers. Some how I pushed them past there peak and so they are not responding the way they should.
