New GeForce 9600 in box; shuts off power!

Hi, all! Just installed a new GeForce 9600 in a box with an Asus A8N32-SLI board w/AMD Athlon 64 (3200) processor. Video works perfectly fine in normal operation, however, when I fire up a game (Eve online) requiring DirectX 9.x (which installed with the game) after a couple seconds the machine just shuts off! I'm thinking it's just a power supply load issue, but the power supply in it is a 600W, 28a unit. The board requires a 28a power supply, but maybe it really needs more? The machine currently has XP/Pro (32-bit); had same problem with Server 2008 64-bit, so I dropped back to 32-bit OS thinking that might be an issue...

Looks like it was the power supply at this point. Replaced the existing600W with a Thermaltake Black Widow (850W, 4 rails, modular cables), and it's working perfectly. If any of you are looking for a nice power supply that'll help clean up your cases, check out this Black Widow. The modular cables means you only use what you need. Very nice.

 

Yeah, I figured it was the power supply. I'm running a 9600GT also with a high end 600w PSU (4 rails at 20a each) and the system is rock solid. Modern video cards require a decent amount of power, and what's listed on the box is the bare minimum and should only be used as a very rough guide to the actual power requirements. Anyway- glad to hear you're up and running! :-D
