Hi all! Im new here and I joined just for help from an issue im having. So I just purchased a nVidia GeForce GTX 560 Ti today, with a new 600W powersupply to help it on its way. This was a completely new upgrade for my old computer, especially since its on a first gen i7.

Anyway, I remove my old Radeon HD 4800 and plop it in, with the new power supply (Keep in mind my old power supply is a meager 350 Watt), and I get a cheksum errror. So I load up the BIOS and after loading windows it just hangs. I then installed the drivers and booted up again. This time, I re-set the graphic card on my motherboard because I was getting red dots on some parts of the screen. It loaded up windows and it hanged, with little beeps coming from my computer in the middle of startup.

So now, after removing the old graphic card and putting the old powersupply and graphic card back in, I am at the breaking point of waiting 45 minutes for it to boot up, upwards from the small 15 second bootup it had. It still has problems, even though before it had none (before I put the new card in), and it has the same hanging issues with the old card. When I finally do get to my desktop homescreen, the system time has been reset to January 1st 2008 (Near the time the computer was manufactured),and I still see red dots, Whenever I left click something, windows explorer just tstops. However, My data is all intact, at least, so far. I'm experienced with computers, and know Java, but that doesnt help with hardware at all!

    Please help!

Uninstall the Catalyst drivers in control panel and nvidia driver from device manager if present, shutdown, change to your 560, boot and install nVidia drivers from disc. Should work.

Thanks, Ill try that. It also doesnt remember ANY network settings or passwords, and treats all software like a fresh install when I open the navigation menu (bottom right corner). It is soo SLOW,like it has no processing speed. The virtual profile settings for my ethernet adapter dont match the ones to teh computer anymore either. What a mess! Ill see if I can uninstall them

Will that fix my speed issues and everything else I mentioned? I hope that the PCI slot isnt broken

While you're at it un/re install your mobo's chipset drivers, I'm not sure here but check your device manager for yellow warnings.

Ill see what I can do. I cant left click anything, or else windows explorer takes a crap on me, and it is literrally as slow as mollasses. It is impossible to access that internet from said computer.

Reboot and try safe mode with networking, hit the delete key while rebooting, that should help.

On the slowness and settings not being saved--I'm just wondering if you are somehow being directed to a temporary user profile.

When you get to your desktop take a quick look at your user name at the top of the Start menu is it your usual name? In C:\Users are there any strange folders like John.00001 or some such?

Is Safe Mode (F8 at boot) just as slow?

    Sorry, it's the F8 key.:-o

Oh yeah, safe mode is just as slow. I tried that at first. Ill check the user files. I had to do a restart to uninstall the drivers fully.

Ill check the Users once I wait the boot time of 45 minutes. (I have never seen anything like THIS).

Holy crap man!:eek Have you tried a Live Linux disk yet? Perhaps a coincidental RAM failure.

This happens every boot ever since I put the graphics card in on the first time. Ill try my linux ubuntu boot disk I guess. This is the definition of computer hell.

What I mean by hanging for the boot time of fourty five minutes is that after the green bar of windows finishes, I go to a black screen, and wait at least 30-45 minutes before I get it to get to the login screen. I turned off integrated graphics when I put the card in..so thats not the problem. Same things happen in safemode, except it hangs at the driver loadup screen. :(

I hope I can fix this without getting a new computer or reformatting my harddrive.

Before it started showing everything showingup as new software,I did a "revert to last known configuration", of course that did not work. Anyway, If I find these should I delete them?

It is safe to delete them if they exist, a new one is created each time. It was just a thought since I have seen Win7 create a temp account that basically has an empty Start menu. But on that account you usually can't get into My Documents for your usual user and you said all your data was there, so it is probably not applicable.

If things weren't so slow I would say try a System Restore if available.

Since you have the Ubuntu CD boot from that to check the boot time. The slow down seems to be Windows related rather than hardware since you get through POST and slow down after Windows has started.

Ok, Ill use my linux Ubuntu boot disk. And there were no temporary profiles in my user file. This all started after I put in the new graphic card. Also, when I boot up, after I get past the dell loading screen, I get this little white line in the corner of my screen, where the processor details used to appear, but they do not appear anymore. It stays there for about 5 minutes. This is where I would usually access safe mode. Then I get to the windows load. After it loads up, I get the black screen and wait about 20-30 minutes to gain access to my login screen.
