New graphics card?

Hi all.
I appear to be having a bit of grief with my graphics?
I have a Samsung tft 19" monitor.
The desktop icons are nice and clear until i play, say, MOHAA online.
Sometimes this game crashes and when i get back to my desktop i restart and the icons on the desktop are a bit blurred and the small writing around them looks broken, bits missing.
Do you think this could be my card overheating or something?
I have tried using MBM to look at temperatures but it doesn't support my board.
Any suggestions?

Does this issue occur in the BIOS? Check there, if it does, that would confirm the issue is with the graphics card.

Do you mean when i come out of a crashed game is the bios writing unclear?

What I mean is,

does this issue with blurry, broken writing occur also in the system BIOS? I didn't mean to be ambiguous. Speaking of ambiguous, what is MBM?

MBM is Motherboard Monitor, it is somewhere on this site, i used it a bit ago and it can tell you how hot your processor etc is running.
I tried it recently but it no longer supports my motherboard.
BTW, could you tell me why looking in the BIOS and finding the stuff a bit blurred would confirm that i have a problem with my graphics card?
I am not being ambitextrous, i just need educating

 

the video card drivers arent loaded yet when you're in the BIOS so if it's a hardware problem then it would still be looking funky in the BIOS as well. if not, then it's most likely a software problem, possibly a driver issue. Is this the only game it does this for? and what video card do you have? i dunno if MBM can see video card temps, but then again ive never used it lol.

My graphics is a NVidia 6600, can you not see my sig? If not let me know, i can.
It didn't happen last night, i'm wondering if it was to do with another problem i was having http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=144064

Thanks viper_boy, I appreciate the assist. The BIOS test was to prove if it was indeed a hardware issue. Again, sobeit, I was not intentionally ambiguous.

 

yeah i saw it after i posted

i think that the 6600 should have a temp sensor on it, check in the nvidia control panel (right click the desktop and you'll see it)

 

Don't see anything to do with temps in the card properties.
I was online again last night and still no crash or wobbles.
Perhaps it was the other hassle i was having (see the link in my post below).
This application was using up to 80% of my cpu power without me knowing so with the game running as well and this thing running in the background perhaps it was the cpu getting close to frying?

 

nah, the computer would shut itself down it the temps got too high. first it will hit it's slowdown threshold and drop it's clock speed to try and cool down. then if that doesnt work, it will shut down and notify you when you try and start it up again

 

Don't know whats gone on then.
I'm going to give my drive a good going over, get rid of junk and malware etc and see what happens.
If i still get grief then it will be a format, if that doesn't work i'm going to buy an abacus!
