Hello all. Be gentle, I'm new here. I treated myself to a Freecom 250Gb external drive. I was just messing around this evening and saw that the file system on the Freecom was Fat32 whereas the C: drive is NTFS. Is this right, I thought one was better than the other. Is it okay to have two file formats working together. My normal route is to take my memory card from my SLR, stick it into the card reader on the front of the PC, transfer to My Pictures on the C: drive then copy to the F: drive (Freecom ex). Any enlightenment here is appreciated folks, cheers, Gary.

Yeh they'll talk to each other fine, no problems.

However, FAT32 is an old and outdated version of formatting, is used for USB drives and MP3 players.

My sister has a Freecom 80gb External drive and that was initially formatted using FAT32. After a lot of data loss, I took over and formatted it using NTFS - it ran a lot more smoothly and have had no problems ever since.

So, in conclusion, if you can format it to NTFS then by all means go for it! But it won't hurt if you keep it like this.

Also remember that formatting erases ALL data on the drive!

Cheers for the quick reply. As there is very little on the drive just now I'll go ahead and format it to NTFS. Thanks again.
