I installed a new seagate 250 GB harddrive, ATA
when I go to Device Manager it shows up as installed corectly,
I know I need to partition the drive, the problem is that the drive does not show up anywhere.

Try going to the "run" command line & typing in "diskmgmt.msc" (without the quotes, of course). It should bring up the 'disk management' program which should show you the new hard drive, and show it as unformatted. Right-click the new HDD & choose to format it. Then you should be good to go.

    PS - I'm assuming you're using XP.

Thank you for the fast answer , I now have the new hard drive showing ,
is it hard to partition the drive into 2 or 3,?? it is a 250GB drive , if you have any other suggestions that might work better , I would really appriceate it.

    Feeling better already

This will help better than I can explain it here...in the 'disk management' program, click help-->help topics. The 'microsoft management console' should open up. In the 'contents' tab, open up 'disk management'-->'how to'-->'manage basic volumes'-->'create a partition or logical drive'.

Again thanks for the fast reply, one more quistion, it seems easyer to partition a basic disk than a dynamic disk, I see there is a way to change a dynamic to a basic disk, would you give me your thoughts on that please.
