    Hi,

I have a laptop with a dying hard drive so I purchased a new and unformatted 2.5 inch drive. I managed to get the thing formatted by hooking it up through one of those USB drive connectors but I still can't get Windows installed on it when I then move it back to the inernal drive spot and boot with the install disc in teh drive. The CD portion starts up but then it fails to find the hard drive and just reboots.

For the record, I am going from a 30GB drive to an 80GB drive and the OS is XP. Instead of a real windows disc I have the stupid Toshiba 'Factory Restore' disc that came with the laptop.

One thing I am wondering is if the machine is looking for something specific on the drive. I thought about moving the new drive external and copying the original drive over. I know that won't work well enough to but from it. But could it work well enough to run the factory restore?

    Any ideas?

    TIA

What kind of laptop do you have exactly? You may need to download a drivers disk from Toshiba. You can also pay $$$$ to have one installed by a professional. I did that my first time around because I had no idea about loading drivers. Also, I would try to update the BIOS to the lasted version.
