I want to install a new HD with much more capacity than my current drive and make it my main drive. This may be too simple but--can I install the new as a slave, use the tranfer wizard to transfer evrtything from the main drive to the new drive and then flip flop the drives inside the cpu and restore the new drive to make it the master, then format the old?
I suspect the transfer wizard doesn't take the operating system with it.--so--- should I just copy the old HD to the new and then flip-flop? I've read numerous articles but still not sure how to make this happen.
    Thanks.

Copying the old drive to the new is the best option.
I usually opt for cable select, then use the manufacturers tool to prepare, install, and copy.
If you download the Hard Drive utility from the manufacturers site, you can completely copy your present hard drive to the new.
Maxtor , I know , has this facility, and as Seagate have more , or, less got them under their wing, , I believe they have it too.
Check the new Hard Drive Manufacyurers site.
This has always been a good point with IDE, OR, E-IDE Hard Drives, but I am not up to date with S-ATA, on this.It is definitely worth checking , first, before having to re-install your operating system.
One thing to remember is to shut down when copying is finished, and set the new drive as master, before restarting
