There arn't many drives that can out perform that!

Aslong as you dont want any more space, then that one is ideal!

Remember, you get what you pay for.

If you get a new drive, I recommend Western Digital. I have found that Seagate and Hitachi are unreliable. Here is a good drive. It is also one of the fastest and most reliable hard drives out there. If you don't want that, Here is a WD Caviar Blue.

I think i might go with the second one, heck id spend Almost $100.00 on an HDD, but i don't have it lol. I'm sure that one will blow my current one away. :wave

I've used WD Caviar Blacks in my last 3 systems. Quiet, cool, reliable, fast. 5yr warranty too.

In the OP's first post they state they have an IDE Maxtor drive and they were looking at a Seagate SATA drive. I hope they have the capability to use a SATA drive.

One thing about Velociraptors is that they are very expensive, and have lower capacities (Up to 600GB.). Also the faster it is the more ware and tear they get. I bet he wants something that lasts a long time. (But if I could afford a Velociraptor, I would get one in a heartbeat. roflmao)

Where do you get that notion? If that were true, then 7200 RPM drives would be horrible to use compared to the 5400 RPM drives from most old laptop computers.

At work we have some 10k and 15k SAS drives that are still going strong for near 3 years now in our EMC san.

One other note, the velociraptors are considered Enterprise hdd, not consumer. So, yes, more reliable, but higher cost.

In the end, you purchase what you can afford. :)

I've seen more than a few WD go bad over the last few years. My current is 320 Caviar blue , went bad within 6 months of purchase. Here is the post
    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=193983
I did send it back and get a brand new one. :-D
My last computer had a WD in it and it was good for 7 years, so :confused
HD's are just like good coon dogs, "There's gooden' and badens' in all breeds"
If I were buying again, I'd prob get a WD again, just because of the outstanding IT support that came with my computer locking up. ;)

Yeah, I wasn't meaning to say that WD drives never fail. I was mostly talking about drive performance.
You could even have a bad hdd that you bought brand new from the vendor.

Personally I have a policy of purchasing only WD hard drives. I am not suggesting in any way that other hard drive brands are rubbish or anything, but I have purchased drives from WD 5 or more years ago that I am still using now, with no faults or performance degradation at all.
