New HDD

as i am having issues with my hdd in my INSPIRON 2500 I am looking into buying a new HDD.

I saw these two and I wanted to know if anybody knew if they would worked on my INSPIRON 2500 or if anybody knows of any problems:

1- TOSHIBA 60GB 5400RPM 2.5 INCH HDD (specs are below)

2- TOSHIBA MK4025GAS 40GB 4200RPM 13MS 2.5IN MOBILE IDE (specs are below)

The largest size drive that shipped in the Inspiron 2500 was a 20GB. You might want to make sure the bios can detect a 40GB. But it's a Pentium III so I'm fairly certain it won't support a 60GB. If it were me, Toshiba anything would work.

 

There is a 33 G limit to older BIOS. Ran into a problem with my Award v4.51 not detecting a new 40 G drive. There is also a 64 G limit to Win98. The industry has really moved forward and left a lot of us behind. Good luck.

 

There was also a limit at ~8 and/or ~18 i believe....but usually for much older machines. After the mentioned ~33gb, i think the next size is 147GB?.
I would expect the BIOS to detect it fine, however. My old celeron 266 could detect an 80gb drive fine!
