Hi and welcome to Majorgeeks :wave

You will not have sufficient privileges to post in the malware removal forum unless you are an authorised malware fighter.

bad idea! each fix we work up is tailor made for THAT machine only. By following someone else's thread just because they have similar issues could end up in disaster. It's best for you to ensure that you create your own thread in malware as stated, where you will get all the advice you need and a set of specific instructions from one of us.

I'm new too and I have a problem with my browser being redirected to any site but what I wanted. I have tried to follow what this site has offered re malware tools and have downloaded and ran CCleaner, super antispyware, spybot search & destroy, malwarebytes anti-malware. However I have stopped short of using the combo fix that one I think may be more than I can handle by myself. However despite what I have accomplished my browser still is possessed and my dilema is how do I start a thread where I can get one on one assistance?

I guess with all the boards I have been members of over the years, this was the first were you could not reply to someone elses post. The post that I had read included the same signs and symptoms of what I was experiencing but through some detective work, I uncovered the malware remover that removed it and bam!, all is good now.

    good luck!

That's only in the Malware forum, and for good reason. The people that are allowed to help in there are trained and very good. There are no guessing games or wrong advice given out no matter how well intentioned it may be. Not only that, even though someone may have the same virus/trojan/malware as you, does not mean that the cleaning procedure will be the same. Everyone has different computer specs, software, files, etc on their computers.

With all due respect nucleuscracker, I agree with Laura.

While no one is dispelling your abilities. MG simply follows a code, regarding Malware removal.

I for sure, don't have the expertise to do the needful. But pls note there are plenty of members here who are more than capable of cleaning their Sys. But refrain from posting in the Malware Forum as per policy.

Look forward to seeing your support in the other forums. :)

I guess to clarify, as I originally had mentioned, I wasn't trying to post to help the o.p. with their issue, rather to say that I was having the same issue, seeing the same signs and symptoms. It was an attempt to avoid having duplicate posts with that same problem. On other boards, its not taken lightly when you start a new thread for the same issue. Thus the "search" function... I do appreciate the tailored advice to each and every problem, and in no way was I trying to help the OP with their problem, just trying to make life easy for everyone. :major

Ah. :) The way MG's malware forum works, it truly is tailored to each person's individual machine and the logs that are generated by those people. This board arguably has one of the best malware removal forums you can find on the internet (for free too!). Part of the reason for that, besides the excellent helpers is that they don't allow the threads to get cluttered up with people either trying to help (who don't know what they are doing) or jumping in with their own problems. :)

It is the exact opposite at majorgeeks. For the same reason as malware, the only posts in a help thread (software, hardware, ect.) should be made by the person asking the original question and those who are helping them. Again, it creates less confusion for the person asking for help.

Whenever you have a question, if you have not found the answer to your question through a search of the forum, go ahead and start your own thread.

Hope that clears it up for you.

    Hi

Are you a trained malware removal expert or would like to be as if you're interested in this area I know we could do with a few more helpers who are experienced in this area. If you are please mention it as we have a superb training program in which chaslang our malware resident Microsoft MVP in Security can tweak your skills, he would welcome some more help as Malware is becoming a larger pest by the week.

So do mention in this thread if you are willing to help out in our malware forum and go through the selection process.

Here we take the old way of hijacking anothers thread is bad manors and not all fixes are right as many variables exist as not all PC setups are the same so fix can be different, plus if you search and find a thread say with same issue from 2006 the OS and Service Pack is likely do be different so fix could be different plus if thread is long one and you tag onto the end many are likely to bypass it as an old or worked on thread so if you're issue is new you are likely to miss out on valuable help, so new thrad for your issue is best as you gain directed help for you and not multiple others.

I think he was saying he was looking for help and thought it would be better not to start a new thread about the same thing since that is generally frowned upon on other message boards (which it is, as I can attest to that). ;)

    lauraR,

thank you, you hit the nail on the head and backed me up as well. Other forums frown upon duplicate posts with the same question. It is always recommeneded that you search the site first with your issue before posting a question. As a newbie here, I hadn't know that this board was run differently, not having been informed when enrolling.

In an effort to break up a fight between our 2 girls, I have know also been informed that you have only 10 minutes to edit a post......

Please ignore my last post. As a newbie here, I wasn't aware of the posting rules, and with all the boards I have been on over the years, I thought that all operate under the same general rules.

I understand and appreciate that every solution is tailored to your specific problem and your specific machine as no 2 computers are alike. But also neither are 90 gallon saltwater Tanks, 35 gallon saltwater tanks let alone my AR230 Jetboat, but all those boards have operated (as lauraR mentioned) under the guidelines that duplicating a question in a new post is strongly frowned upon. The search function is there for a reason is what you are always told.

Halo, in no way was I attempting to hijack a post, I'm not quite sure what you were expecting me to do. Rather I was attempting to save everyone time, not knowing I was breaking the rules of the board.

Hijack a thread is a common phrase used here that just means you shouldn't post your question/problem in someone else's thread and is not meant as anything other than just start your own thread. You shouldn't take Halo's comment personally. ;) He is a great (and extremely knowledgable) admin here and is always more than happy to help others and has done so tons and tons of times.

Not to belabor the issue, but there is a very good reason for starting your own thread which has already been stated. The main reason being confusion and muddying the thread with two or more different poster's questions. (In malware, you could do serious damage to your machine if you try to use someone else's fix, as traces of malware put themselves in different places and if you delete the wrong thing, you may wind up with a computer that doesn't work at all).

Putting your question in someone else's thread also insures that you will not get as many people looking at it since a thread with 0 or a couple responses will get more attention. It also does not 'save time'.

At MGs, the search function is there to look for your issue and see if you can solve it on your own.

This forum has a huge amount of very knowledgable people (a lot of them in the tech industry). The members are very willing to help people regardless of computer experience. So if you do have questions, just ask away. Of course, just do it in your own thread. ;) LOL

Indeed and thanks Laura, dont take my post to heart as it was not ment to have a go at you but just outline the smooth running of the forum and more so the malware forum as I dont think your intentions where to break any rules at all.

I know I tend to be a good judge of a users knowledge and can tailor my advice even down to taking the time to create step by step screenshots (other members do same also), most other forums dont go to these levels, which makes Majorgeeks different to others.

One reason we mention new thread per issue, is that if you search and find a thread say from 2006 with same issue, its not always that the information in that thread will fix your issue as new service pack and differeing software may have a different fix... seen it many times when someone tried a fix from many years back that messd up their PC, also seen older fixes working, but not always. As well as old threads as Laura mentioned tend to be overlooked whereas zero post threads thatare new are jumped on.

I do hope you stick with the forum as I feel you have alot of good information to give to others :)
