New here! I need help!

Hello fellow geeks.. I'm a DIY with computers but I recently was tasked with a mission with my mothers laptop .. It is a Gateway NV53 Athalon dual core.. I know for a fact that it has all types of problems when I used it today .. It is slow sluggish and sometimes unresponsive.. Wifi is perfect and it's windows 7 home premium (build 7601service pack1) I noticed she has a program called PC utilities pro that I never heard of.. Did research and when I proceeded to remove it in safe mode with networking the laptop shut down twice.. Also she had viper antivirus(paid) and Norton (not paid) and I need some advice and or help.. I don't want to ruin her laptop as it's been a few years since i have worked on one.. Thanks

 

Two anti virus programs cause more harm then good,IMO I would get the Norton removal tool and just run Viper. Norton has always been a resource hog in my eyes, I had it as bloat ware years back and was glad when it was gone.

 

hey oldphil thanks for the reply, yes I will decide on keeping the Viper AV and I also did the malware removal guide list.. I am waiting on whether to turn my security back on or for feedback from someone here.. attached all the logs but haven't removed the detected threats.. I was told not to in the guide.. I am confused a bit..
