And, I can't qualify for multiple personality, but I'm a bit OCD (although I prefer to be called a perfectionist!) Monk's my favorite TV show these days...I laugh in anticipation of what I know is to come. By the way, he's on in 15 min. later....

Decided to come back one more time to tempt fate (and the wrath of Kodo)...heh heh...

Xlfat, cave livin' has a lot of appeal, actually. I'm in the process of investigating geodesic dome home living. Taking a tour of a large dome residence in my area at the end of this month (they give tours a couple of times a year). Got all the literature, hundreds of floor plans and a video a few weeks ago. Some of them are spectacular...I gotta have lots of windows (a spiral starcase leading to a loft ain't bad either).

And, yeah, acronyms are great...love to dink with people's minds with lots of TLAs.

DV8Cowboy, I agree with you again...Guinness, or any dark beer! Especially like it with ham & cheese sandwiches on dark bread, followed (for some strange reason...it tastes really good) by chocolate chip cookies. Comfort food! (BTW, looks like you're in for a happy 4th!)

 

Geodesic domes are way cool. Always wondered how much trouble it is getting furniture up/down the spiral staircase though. Maybe a winch over the edge of the loft? Must be doable somehow.

Living in tornado country, xflat's cave is starting to sound pretty good to me.

Hey, GT, you present an interesting question. I'll ask when I take the tour and post back if you're interested. (You don't have to get the spiral staircase--can get the regular old kind). There's a lot of winching going on to set the structural triangular panels into place, so I'd guess a winch is a good thing to have with a dome home. The finished construction is concrete and steel, and the lit. says they'll withstand hurricanes, tornadoes and earthquakes to level 10.

Maintenance is low...no roof to replace ever...and you can connect more than one to have a separate rec area, garage/workshop etc.

Geodesic domes are inherently very strong. It's that "lots of windows" that would be a vulnerability in a twister. Still way better than a standard house, but not as secure as that hole in the ground.

Let me know what they say about moving things upstairs. I once looked at an apartment that had a spiral staircase to a second level, but those had a back hallway and elevator to get things upstairs. Might be a challenge to put a piano in the loft.

 

I'd keep an eye on him for a while first Xflat. Might be a sleeper planted by the other side.

But looks promising so far.
