Word is the latest Ad-Aware reference file fixes it. I have heard no one say it does not simply by following my instructions here:

    http://www.majorgeeks.com/vb/showthread.php?t=35917

Were waiting to hear if theres any small glitches left that we can add to that, but so far... so good. Hope it fixes you up too!

I been did that ad-aware scan and it does not fix anything for me. It keeps showing it trying to delete the same files its been deleting.

Then you need to do it from safe mode. I will update the page explaining that, that was something I was told might be required.

    Reconfigure Ad-Aware for Full Scan:

Launch the program, and click on the Gear at the top of the start screen.

    Click the "Scanning" button.
Under Drives & Folders, select "Scan within Archives".
Click "Click here to select Drives + folders" and select your installed hard drives.

Under Memory & Registry, select all options.
    Click the "Advanced" button.
Under "Log-file detail", select all options.
    Click the "Tweaks" button.

Under "Scanning Engine", select the following:
"Include additional Ad-aware settings in logfile" and
    "Unload recognized processes during scanning."
Under "Cleaning Engine", select the following:
"Let Windows remove files in use after reboot."
Click on 'Proceed' to save these Preferences.
Please make sure that you activate IN-DEPTH scanning before you proceed.
Run the Ad-Aware scan and allow it to remove everything it finds and then REBOOT to allow it to finish.

Yes, try safe mode. But also tell us what your reference file version shows when you run Ad-aware.

It worked or you did something wrong. Ad-Aware scan from windows. Look for the dll file in Windows and delete it. Run Hijack this, kill off any items that are related. Reboot. Check again. Your running an old Hijack This, new version came out today :)

  18. chaslang

chaslang MajorGeeks Admin - Master Malware Expert Staff Member

I'm not sure your are clean. I still see some bad lines that relate to Only The Best hijacker.
The lines I'm referring to are:

    C:\WINDOWS\appyr32.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\ipnd.exe
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {3F550DE3-1D22-F0FC-D006-3DF76883C515} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\mfcym32.dll

    O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [ieao.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ieao.exe

Are you saying you had some R0 & R1 referring to another path and you changed them all to google.com?
If so, you could be just making this problem harder to fix.

I'm not sure this the following procedure is going to fix this permanently since you already have made chanes to some settings. But lets try anyway and see what happens.

Download the latest HijaakThis (version 1.98) and use it for below:

    http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html

Shutdown all applications and run HijaakThis. Before scanning do the following. Click Config, Misc Tools, Open Process Manager and look for the appyr32.exe and or ipnd.exe processes. If you find them, select (one at a time) and then click Kill process. After doing this, click the lower right hand side box that says "Back" and then click Scan to get you HijaakThis log. Have it fix:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {3F550DE3-1D22-F0FC-D006-3DF76883C515} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\mfcym32.dll
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ipnd.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ipnd.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [ieao.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ieao.exe

Then see if you can delete the below files (they may be hidden so you must have Win Explorer set to view hidden files and folders):

    C:\WINDOWS\appyr32.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\ipnd.exe

If this does not resolve the issues, do not perform anymore fixes with any scanners or HijaakThis. Just post a new HijaakThis log.

When i try to run that new hijaak program i get an error saying "an unexpected error has occured at procedure: modRegistry_IniGetString(sFile=system.ini, sSection=boot, sValue=shell) Error #5 - Invalid procedure call or argument

Please email me at merijn@spywareinfo.com, reporting the following:
*What you were doing when the error occured
*How you can reproduce the error
*A complete Hijack This scan log, if possible

    MSIE versian: 6.0.2800.1106
    HijackThis versian: 1.98.0

This message has been copied to your clipboard"
    OK
This is the scan from hijack after pressing ok to that error like 7 times. I also did what u said about endproccess appyr32.exe it told me that it cant be deleted windows might be protecting this file.
