I just got a new HP dv6-1254cl from costco. I didnt have the option to get it with xp, so I installed xp myself.

However, after installing xp much of the hardware isnt working. Luckily I got the video card and wireless, however audio isn't and theres a few items in the device manager which dont have drivers nor a specific name.

So heres what I need working at minimum:
    HP audio touchpad
    Sound

Thanks for the help, any further assistance in getting the drivers for the unknown hardware would be nice!

:wave Welcome to Major Geeks! :major

Luckily, you posted the correct model number in your thread title, because the model number in the first line of your post doesn't exist. For those who may want to help, the actual model number here is: dv6-1253cl.

I believe this is your sound driver: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...softwareitem=ob-68225-1&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN It will require that you install KB888111 first; it's the Microsoft high-def UAA update and can be downloaded from this link. I'm not sure what you mean by "HP audio touchpad", but I think it's the Quick Launch Buttons, and you can download the driver from this link. I hope these work for you, and let us know how it goes! Good luck!

(If you have additional uninstalled hardware, we'll need an Everest report; you can follow the steps in this thread to download and install Everest, and to create the report.)

Thanks, yeah I have trolled the forums for a while. I guess theres no way to prove that, but I have :)

I did in fact log an everest report I just forgot to attach it, its attached now.

Thanks for the help. I am going to try these steps right now!

Regarding the volume buttons: Theres a touch sensitive area on the top of my keyboard and when I slide my finger one way the volume goes down and when i slide it the other it goes up. Naturally after installing xp it no longer does that.

OK... well, I have some good news! I downloaded the Vista sound driver, extracted it, and found that it has Windows XP support! However, if you run the installer (or setup.exe) it may not work, but it won't hurt to try. You can download the Vista sound driver from this link. If simply double-clicking the file doesn't work to install the sound drivers, you'll need to extract it. If you don't already have a good file file extractor/unzipper installed (like WinRAR for example), download and install TUGzip. TUGzip can extract RAR files, ZIP files, 7zip files, many EXE files, and just about any archive or self-extracting archive you're likely to encounter. When installing TUGzip just click 'Next' all the way through. At the end of the install, there will be a little check-box for "Launch TUGzip"; go ahead and launch it; click "Next" all the way through again until you see a "Finish" button; there will be a column on the left side with a bunch of different archive formats; click the "Select All" button; click "Finish". A window will open that looks like an Explorer-type window, close it. Right click the file you downloaded (the file you want to extract) and click the 2nd upward pointing green arrow, it will say something like "Extract to: .\filename" and the file will extract to a folder of the same name. When extracting the sound driver, the end result will be a folder called sp43935. Use the following steps to install the driver. In step 6 below, you'll point the Wizard to the sp43935\WDM\WinXP folder.

    1. Right click My Computer > Properties > Hardware > Device Manager.
    2. Click the little plus sign next to the category of the driver you want to install/update.
    3. Right click the device and select "Update Driver".
    4. The "Hardware Update Wizard" will open; click the bottom circle for "Not this time" and click "Next"
(this window may be called the "New Hardware Wizard" but everything else is the same)
    5. In the next window that opens, select the bottom circle for "....a specific location" and click "Next".
    6. The next window that opens, select the top circle, and the 2nd box for "include this location in the search" and click the "Browse" button (the green box in the screen shot) and
a "Browse for folder" window will open (see screenshot). Use the info in the red box (see screenshot) to select the driver folder.
    7. When the "Browse" window closes, the location you selected in step 6 will appear in the location bar (purple box in screen shot); click "Next". If you know the exact path to the
driver folder, you can simply type it into the location bar (the purple box in the screenshot) instead of using the "Browse" button, but the "Browse" button is usually much easier.
    8. At this point, the driver should install. When it's done, click "Finish". It's usually a good idea to restart the PC at this point.

I think I also posted a link for the Quick Launch Buttons in a post above, but here it is again: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&os=2093&product=3966278 Installing this driver should get the 'special' buttons at the top of the keyboard working for you.

    Good luck!!!!

It seems my wireless is giving me some trouble.

While connected to the work network, so I can access works servers with a bunch of files I edit all day, my connection will cut out randomly.

Maybe the drivers I am using arent that great? I tried to open the official hp ones, but they only have vista drivers.

Any help would be nice :)

Generally speaking, you should start a new thread for each problem regardless of whether it's the same PC or not, but since I'm already here.....

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...n&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&os=228&product=3446943

The link is for the HP wifi driver for Windows XP. Upon doing some research, it seems that your problem is somewhat common with the connection dropping off or slowing wwwaaaayyyy down. If the driver I just linked to doesn't help, start a new thread describing the problem, provide a link to this thread, and we'll go from there. Good luck!
