Hello! I bought a Compaq 6200 Pro small form PC for $60 from Newegg to use as a game server. It's running Windows 7 Pro. I bought extra RAM & a new chip for it so it will support up to 50 players. I'd like to know the best way to clear out the add on junk that HP wants you to use. I'm going to download CCleaner, delete the add on stuff thru Control Panel, and would like recommendations for a free/low cost antivirus software as well. Many thanks!

The other program mentioned is good but I prefer to use RevoUninstaller. It offers the ability to remove all the left overs etc.

Of course you could always either do a Reset or reinstall if you want a clean computer

A factory installed partition will reinstall the crapware if you reset the machine to factory. If you want a clean machine to start, you need a retail or MS downloaded W7 disc image. It will take some updating. The last W7 install I did updated smoothly, looks like they fixed the Update Tool issue.

The only trouble with installing clean, is the OEM - Also recovery to factory will no longer work.
The OEM number will not be accepted with a fresh install, unless you use a 'slick' tool. If there is no COA on the unit, you really can only clean up as offered by the other geeks.

Actually I have yet for any W7 clean installs to fail install or activation with the linked images. Dell, HP, Lenovo, you name it. The OP should have a COA (license key) with 7. Any way you slice it, some type of COA should have been provided with a W7 PC.

You are correct that it would eliminate the factory partition, and as such would no longer work. If you wanted it back, you'd need original HP operating system discs.

If there is a valid COA, then I suggest that you download w7 x64 pro, and use that to install fresh, and before you install, save the drivers, and look into the recovery partition, as it may well have a drivers folder that you can copy and use on install. Then install just the programs you want.
This would give you a faster ,more responsive server.
