    Hi,

I just bought a Compaq CPQUSBFW 7-Port USB 2.0 & Firewire Combo HUB with these features:

I plugged the hub into a firewire port on my tower. I'm not sure what upstream and downstream mean but none of my external hard drives work when I plug them into the 2.0 ports. They work when I plug them into my tower or into a port of another hub, so it's not the cables or the hdds that aren't working.

I have one external hard drive plugged into one of the firewire ports and it works fine.

I've attached a picture of the HUB.

Can anyone give me an idea of what's going on?

    Denise

If you go to my computer, is it showing up as a device? ed

I can't really tell. I have four 2.0 ports and three firewire ports on my tower. I have 12 external hdds. I have two firewire hdds connected to the tower and the hub is firewired into the third port. I have three hdds plugged into three 2.0 ports and the fourth port is used for a four port 2.0 port hub. My Universal Serial Bus controllers show:

I also keep getting messages about my connections. The title is "HI-SPEED USB Device Attached to non-HI-SPEED Hub"

This it what it says, (and I wish I could copy and past it, but I cant):

(Yellow Triangle with an Exclamation Point inside of it) The USB Mass Storage Device is a HI-SPEED USB device and will function at reduced speed when plugged into a non-HI-SPEED port.

The hubs shown in bold type have free ports that can support the HI-SPEED USB device.

    Recommendation
Disconnect the USB Mass Storage Device from its current port and then connect it to ne of the ports on a hub shown in bold type.

I have one of my external hdds connected to either the Generic USB Hub (4 ports) or the USB Root Hub because that's all I have, but it's transferring files as if it were 1.0, not 2.0, yet the message says that the ports on both the hubs should be used because it contains high-speed ports. The cable has 2.0 written on it so I know that it's not a 1.0 or 1.1 cable, and I had an extra 2.0 cable and tried that one and got the same results. When I bought the hub, the package said it was a 2.0 hub. Is my compuer confused or is the hub that I have my external hdd connected to damaged?

The four 2.0 ports on the other hub (the one in the picture) don't work. Does it sound like I have 2 broken hubs?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
