New install-cdrom freezes computer

Just built a amd 3000+ socket 754 with a gigabyte ga-k8ns nforce3 mb. I have a lg dvd burner and a lg cdrom. When I put it together and installed xp pro I used the cdrom. After installing the mb drivers I went to check if the sound worked and put a cd in the cdrom and it froze. Put it in the dvd burner and worked fine. So I put the dvd burner to slave and the cdrom to master and same thing. So I put another new known working cdrom and same thing just freezes..any ideas........thanks SM

 

Turned out to be a firmware upgrade..........
