i'm getting a message from my computer that the sound card that came installed does not have a valid signature as required by microsoft. it just started about a three wks ago. also a code 39, which could mean one of the following:
a required device driver is missing
a required binary file is corrupted
there is a problem with the file I/O process
a driver that is referencing an entry point in another binary file is unable to load, all of which i have little or no idea of how to remedy.

have tried to uninstall and reinstall w/o any success. also used a different port to see if that would work. still blowing errors.

any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

    comp: dell dimension 4600
sound card: analog devices inc "soundmax integrated digital audio"

Well it sounds like your on the right track. More than likely a corrupt file by the sounds of it. Try this for a start -

Boot into safe mode and run a - checkdisk /r from the command prompt.
Unistall the device from device manager.
    Reboot.
Download and install the latest drivers (should be able to get them from dell).

thanks. was not able to run chkdsk r. would not recognize command. i was able to run chkdsk f/r C:. unfortunately did not do the trick. sound card still on the fritz.

my next question would be, what about installing a new card altogether? since my comp is telling me that the card that came installed w/unit does not have a valid signature, would a new one do the trick?

perhaps it's time for a new computer period.

    any thoughts?

thanks. i did what you suggested and still blowing error messages. nothing changed. looks like i either reinstall windows or get a new comp. i was thinking of purchasing a new sound card first. don't know if that would do the trick or not.
