New laptop distorts photos

This is really for a friend who just got a new laptop, 15.4 inch LCD screen (Toshiba Satellite). Running XP Home.

His photos display 'distorted', stretched wide (I think). I haven't seen it yet, will this afternoon.

He says he can 'play' with individual photos and make them better. But, he'd like a permanent fix so all photos look 'correct'.

Must be a setup for aspect ratio, I'd think.

Is it a widescreen laptop ?

Check the screen resolution. Start --> Settings --> Control Panel --> Display and click on the 'Settings' tab

 

Apparently, it is a widescreen laptop. I've seen similar laps (15.4 inch screen) advertised as 'widescreen'.

Screen resolution: 1024 x 768 (at max setting on gauge).

Thanks for the interest. My friend just gave me the lap for a few days, to play with it.
