I flipped on my laptop and got a blue-screen message that basically amounts to "self-destruct in 5...4...3...". It's a Dell (Inspiron 1100) that I'm willing to admit is pretty crappy, and in buying a new hard drive for it, I want something better than Dell offers. Any suggestions?

I am not sure I understand your post. Do you wish to fit a new hard drive and are not satisfied with DELL pricing or sizes offered? DELL would be using a hard drive like IBM Travelstar or someone else. Are you willing to remove the hard drive yourself? If so, check for the OEM maker of the hard drive. Usually the only difference might be in an adapter that DELL use to connect an OEM hard drive to the DELL internals. This is how it is in my Gateway, anyhow.

Beware what capacity hard drive you purchase. There may be limits in your BIOS as to how big (capacity) a drive you can fit, especially if your laptop is elderly. Bazza
