ok..i got a lap top and man! it's definetly different. i'm having problems opening
files, or takes FOREVER. i guess my question is..is there a big difference in the way you use a laptop versus desktop (other than portable..DUH!) or maybe i just don't have it tweaked the way i need it. just looking for some general advice maybe????

    HI

Sould be no difference between desktop and a laptop in opening files, but make sure that you only have 1 antivirus software program on this laptop as one main issue with slow opening of files and programs is having two Antivirus applications installed, both scan the files so slow the pc down.

But also give us some info, what Windows vesrion you using?

What are the hardware specs? What processor, how much memory, video specs, etc? Do you Norton or McAfee software installed on it?

A book on XP SP2 that I recommend is:-

Windows XP Annoyances for Geeks, by David A. Karp O'REilly press.
ISBN: 0-596-00876-7 Was USD$35 new. Probably get a better price at Amazon.com, or similar.

It has really helped me tweak my XP Pro laptop. That and Major Geeks, of course. :major

Don't let the title put your off. It is well written for beginners, on upwards.
My copy is well dog eared and I still refer to it after 18 months, or so.

Even though I haven't got Vista as yet, I will be ordering the Vista version when it is released next month.
