Righty ho, I'm (hopefully) gunna get me a laptop for christmas/bithday.

As far as I can tell, I've got 2 options.
    Dell Inspiron 1000
    Dell Inspiron 510m

I need the wireless (so I can use the network at school), either I got for the 510m and its built in, or I go for the 1000 and buy a card seperatly. I'm not too bothered about processor speed, or memory as long as I can do office stuff and maybe a bit of gaming (maybe i want a reletivly good graphics chipset too?).

Anyway... what do you guys think?

I like the 510m. Mostly because its not a Celeron processor like the other one.

    cooked

If your going to be doing some gaming, I would go with the 510m, celerons are terrible for gaming.

    Mainly because of the cost.

The cheapest mac is about a grand, and I don't have that much money to be throwing around! And the software aint cheap either :p If budget wern't a problem, I'd get an iBook though.

Me too, I'd go with the 510m but with added ram as Fleppen said.

as for Mac's they are superb don't get me wrong I have used many in photo companys I have worked for BUT if something goes wrong they are expensive to repair or get parts for, whereas PCs or Laptops parts are easily available and repairs are a damm sight cheaper.

    Why do you say that?

My dad's company runs most of his computer control rigging jobs from ThinkPads, and none have gone down due to hardware yet.
