If was in the market for a new, mass produced laptop, I'd get a Toshiba. As a part time tech in a small independent PC store, I see VERY few Toshiba's come in for repair. When they do come in, it's usually just a Windows problem. Dell's... avoid like the plague!!! Esp. the Inspiron 1100 series and 5100 series. BAD, BAD, BAD!!! HP is OK, kind of hit and miss... If possible, buy the laptop from a small independent store, that way you have MUCH better support than you'll get from BestBuy or some online clearing house. All this is a matter of personal opinion.... I like to see the small, local businesses get supported. Keep your money in the local economy if possible.... whatever. Personally, if I was to get a laptop (or tower for that matter), I'd find a local store that could custom build one for me with my desired specs. I'd make a list with the CPU, amount of RAM, asst'd features I'd like, will I be burning DVD's?, that kind of thing, and I'd shop it around the local PC stores, and go with the best deal. The best deal is NOT always price!!! Paying a little bit more now might save you alot of money later.... something to think about!
Good luck! And let us know what you decide....

Certainly looks like a great machine at a great price. :major
    Great specs. :cool
I wish they were available in OZ, for the equivalent in Australian dollars.

    Two things I note:

Graphics is only 128 megs. 256 megs is better for Vista, I believe.

I don't like Duo Core or Core 2 Duo's, or whatever they are called.

Current software is unable to utilise both cores at once, so you effectively have a single processor at the clock speed, not double as lots of people think.

    I have a Toshiba Tecra A7 duo core, over 14 month's old.
Core 2 Duo's have superseded the Duo cores but software is still dragging behind the hardware.

I'd prefer a single core at the fastest CPU speed you can get, for the average user, unless you are heavily into multi-tasking or hard core gaming.

    My opinions, of course. Bazza

The HP has a slightly better graphics card but I would choose the Toshiba. I have a Toshiba A100, 15.4" WXGA, T2300, 1.5g RAM, 7300 graphics and all the extras. I can't fault it, very reliable.
