I just wanted to upgrade my system with a new motherboard and processor...

Now the only settleback is my video card because it's a 6800gt in AGP, so what I found was

    Old: Celeron 2.60Mhz New: AMD Athlon 64 3800+ 2.40GHz HV 512kB (112.50 E) OR AMD Athlon 64 3700+ 2.20GHz HS 1MB (217.00 E)
    Old: Motherboard type unknown. New: MSI K8N NEO2-FX nForce3 250Gb (64.50 E)

    Any suggestions??

    Thanks ^^

No need to get impatient! I can't make heads or tails of your question here. Maybe others are having difficulty as well! What suggestions are you after?

I can say that it is a decent motherboard and CPU you've selected. I have the Athlon 3500+ at home and love it. I've also had good experience with MSI mobos (not this specific one however; I went Asus)

What was the reason for you to step over to asus!?

Heh, I actually got my motherboard as part of a wicked deal on a barebones system. Other than that, there was no real reason for the switch.

Asus has become an extremely good company and also has bought out gigabyte. Asus makes excellent boards and so does gigabyte so they are double good boards now i guess if that makes any since. As for your setup, i would research a little more before you settle down with that mobo and cpu. Might just be something better out there. I would stick with amd as your cpu maker though. that's pretty much all i have to say. sorry if it isn't helpful.

Asus is a good brand name, and so is Gigabyte. So is MSI, though. However, like any other manufacturer, they have some not-so-outstanding products as well. (All three, I mean) I wouldn't let brand recognition be the deciding factor in a purchase!

The best choice is the most ideal compromise of functionality, price, and reliablity! Will it do what you want/need? Is it in your price range? Does it have good technical specs? How about warranties? How well does the company support the product?

These are the questions that will make sure that you are happy with your purchase.

Mada_Milty: exactly. It's always better to research everything before you jump the gun and then regret it. Another thing to think about and ask yourself is how long your new hardware will last before it becomes outdated. Technology moves really fast, and you want to make sure that you are buying something that you'll be able to use for several years before you need to upgrade again.

Thirded, with each board revision the board can become a dud, stay as it is or become the best board in its class

When chosing for the most part any component I want not only the best brand "if there is such a thing" but the best model and revision,if your really picky it is possible to trace the best batch which can be as important when chosing a cpu or memory for overclocking :)

Thanks for your help, I'll research a bit more, if I can't find anything better to fit with the 6800gt agp version, I'll stay with this, if I do find something and I can purchase it online in holland or belgium, I'll do!

    Thanks alot!
