New media player (not Winamp!)

Yes, yes, this question has probably been beaten to death.. but...

What is everyone's media player preference?

I would like to know, because I've been a bit out of touch with that arena for a while.

You can help me even more if you gave me a viable alternative to Winamp, iTunes or WMP.

I don't like winamp any more because the support is shocking, there are bugs galore, and v5 is resource hungry (big on RAM). Back in the 2.xx days... it was much better ;)

I don't like WMP because its resource hungry, and the skins suck, amongst other factors

I don't like iTunes because it bugs me to buy music, and then when I try to buy music it won't let me. And it takes an age to load up.

Bear in mind I want to listen to Radio Paradise, as well as my collection of MP3's over a network (they are stored on my server to free up disk space).

    Anyway, fire away!

Finally, someone else who doesn't like WinAmp. I thought I was the only one! :D

This is what keeps me from being a Geek, though: I use Real One Player Plus. For 17 dollars, I get a nice huge data base that will name my CDs when I rip them, and I can control volume levels on CDs I burn. The ease of use on the playlists clinches the deal for me.

I don't like the skins, but Cindy doesn't mind them, and I don't care enough about that part of it to make it worth it.

I was very interested in Jet Audio, but it didn't have all the small things I mentioned about Real One Player.

So, there you have it. :)

Ah but I don't need those features, I've already got programs that do that for me :)

Will check out Jet Audio, sounds promising! Thanks eric :D

Whoa, 14MB download for Jet Audio... guess its a "broadband only" software ;)

I think I'm liking UltraPlayer 2.0.. maybe just for the "house rules" part of their website!

Wow, this is really awesome!! Its .. EXTREMLY... fast... and funky too. The visualisations are cool too, and I think it supports DSP too. Got a good few skins too, not as many as Winamp, but there are some good ones there :)

I use either WMP10 or Zinf

Zinf is a small media player which supports MP3, Ogg, HTTP etc etc

Yeah, I am, sorry for being ambigious. Listening to radio paradise right now, no problems whatsoever. Jet audio used up 14MB to do what this can do in 7MB. I'm now an UltraPlayer Fan :D

Yeah I saw them, there are a few there and there must be some more on the net, but nowhere near as many as winamp has.

I noticed that on MG, thought about downloading it but might try it once I've given ultraplayer a right beating.

Oh yes and the alarm feature on UP works well :D

absolute best player i've come across: http://www.foobar2000.org/
it can get cpu intensive when you up the quality a lot (i get about 2% on average with ASIO, 32bit, and strong ATH noise shaping.), but for most people, it'll work just fine. there are almost no bugs with this thing (none that i can think of, but there's bound to be something). With the proper plugins, this player can be extremely powerful. the configurability of this player is huge, which pretty much means a really sharp learning curve in configuring the player. once you get used to it, you won't regret downloading it:)

Does anyone know of a good standalone mp3 cataloging program? I'm using MP3 Library at the moment, but its not ideal (i want to click on an item, and play it immediatley! )
