New member using HijackThis

Hi,

My name is Angel. I am trying to learn how to use HijackThis. I followed the installation instructions and I ran it also according to the instructions. I wanted to post my log file for further advice. My computer is a laptop (Inspiron 710m) and even though it is less than a year old, it takes a relatively long time to boot up. I was hoping to get advice for speeding things up a bit.

If you cut back on the number of programs that start when Windows starts that will decrease boot time. Most are shown in the sys tray by the clock in the task bar. There is usually an option in the program itself to start or not start when Windows starts. If you check for program updates your self you can also disable the automatic update many programs have. Make sure you leave the firewall and antivirus to run at startup if you will use the internet or a network. There are also programs that will rearrange and defrag your boot files. cleanmgr /sageset:50, and cleanmgr /sagerun:50 along with CCleaner will help also. Defrag your hard drives. Back to the trenches.

Thanks. I did read up on how to do keep programs from loading at startup. HijackThis suggested in its instructions not to that until I ran the program so that the full log could be examined. I think that your advice is well taken and I will folow it to see how my performance improves and then defragment as well.
