For the life of me ... I simply do not understand what happen. Everything was going okay with the installs and what not ... I did a dual boot with winxp and 7 ... XP was fine so I was installing things in 7 then when it came time for java to update in 7 the computer would suddenly shut down ... from there it when all down hill no matter what I did. The video card stopped working ... I put in another one ... it would not work ...I couldn't even get a video signal anymore.:( Then I no longer got a system beep! The lights on the keyboard no longer lit up ... clear sign of a dead mobo ... I just don't understand what I did wrong. Granted I did accidentally pull off one of the sata connector, and could not get it back on, I cover the exposed leads with electrical tape ... it ran fine after that for a day ... so I don't think that could have cause it. What on earth happen? I have the GIGABYTE GA-M68MT-S2.

Can anyone please tell me what the hell happen?:cry:confused

Goldenskull I can't follow the rules

If this is a new mobo i would first try too untighten some of the screws on the mobo alot of times if you thighten the screws too much it will cause problems with the grounding.

Disconnect everything, hard drives/dvd roms, graphics card etc. reset the cmos, check your PSU is sitting snugly, use 1 stick of ram and onboard graphics and see if it will boot to bios. If it does connect a clean HD if you have one if not connect your OS HD and see what transpires.

:waveYou know what ... turned out to be the power supply ... and what a hassle it was to get the P4 connector out from the mobo ... there was some scorching in the one terminal on the mobo .. plastic came off two of the terminals on the ps ... bought it brand new for the rebuild and it dies ... 650W which was enough to run the computer ... turning it in for refund and buying a new different ps tomorrow. I have a ps I use when I suspect the ps is bad ... when I finally got the terminal cleaned out and was able to get a P4 plug to go back in ... it booted up no problems. I didn't leave it running because the ps is only a 400W max. But that turned out to be the problem ... I have never had a problem with a PS before at least not the ones I bought. Thanks to all for your input ... :)

I'm pleased you have sorted it and thanx for posting the solution for others to see. On a similar note I had an EIDE connector short out connected to HD and luckily I was at the computer and immediately pulled the plug from wall socket when smoke started to billow. It had totally melted the insulation right back to the PSU, buggered up 2 HD's as well. Thats computing for ya. ;)

Lost 2 HD :eek oh dear ... but as you say ... that's computing for ya.:*** I guess I was really lucky (more Blessed than luck)LOL that it was just the psu ... well I tell ya ... I'm SOLD :clap on gigabyte boards the beating it took and still running I mean the one pin on the mobo P4 plug is black!

Yes I always post the solution if I find it to help others. I'm always in that boat so I know what it is like to come across a thread that helps with a problem.:wave
