I just received a new pc chips M963GV to replace a dead Emachine mobo. I also replaced the power supply. However, nothing happens when I turn on the computer. There are no lights and the hard drive doen't run. There is no light that I can see on the mobo itsself. I have tried plugging in the power supply to the mobo by itsself and even that doen't work. Is my new mobo DOA?

Well if you are sure the power supply is working correctly I would say it is a good bet that the Mobo should be taken back to where you got it from.

    Hi there Jess1rph,
As Yargwel says it most likely is, but I still get a new 'dead, motherboard, occasionally, until I run the simple checks.
If you have any other cable than the power button connected - disconnect (my favourite dead motherboard feature)

The Power supply will only work, when the motherboard sends the signal back, so first - have you checked the simple things - 4 pin plug connectin (usually next to the cpu), and that the multiplug is engaged properly into motherboard.- have you tried it with one stick of ram in (check which slot, in manual)- is the cpu fan connected - cpu properly in slot.

my favourite saying, sometimes the obvious eludes us.

I tried with all cables removed except the power button. I also used a different power supply and pcu with no results.

I would also like information on this issue. I had the same problem and can't get machine to turn on after 2 new Power Supplies and new Mobo.

    Thanks

I will add this, and yeah, I did these myself a while back.:D Make sure, if there is a button on the back of the PSU that it is on. Double check that you have the power button connected to the correct header on the mobo, and try another A/C cable.

However, if that is only wishful thinking, and the problem is still there- Start at basics.
Motherboard fibre washers fitted under screws ?
1/ power supply connected as per manual - do not connect cd/dvd roms
2/ One stick of ram- remove and replace, and ensure clips clicked home.
3/ CPU is properly seated, and only a scraping of arctic silver/ or, your preferred seating compound.
4/ CPU Fan fitted and plugged into motherboard connection.
5/ Hard drive connected to power supply, and IDE/SATA leads connected.
    Connect monitor
    Connect nothing else.

    Start machine.
If cpu fan spins - good, if not, power supply leads need checking.
If no beeps - cpu, or, motherboard suspect.
If you have another CPU (probably the one thing you have not a spare for) - replace CPU.
If any beeps, listen to , and note sequence, and post back here.
