Since I haven’t had a problems in ages so it’s been a while. Well my ABIT IC7-G MOBO quit so I am currently installing a new ABIT IP35 Pro. So far I’ve been able to get in BIOS to make changes but I haven’t been able to run the ABIT insulation CD to install the drivers. I have changed the boot sequence to CD for the first boot but I always end up at the Safe Mode page. I’ve checked the CD cables, power, and connections and everything seems fine, I just cant get the CD to boot. I understand I’m going to have headaches installing a new MOBO and chip and will probably have to re-install Windows.

If you have Windows 2000/XP/Vista installed with one motherboard, and that motherboard dies, and you install a motherboard that isn't absolutely identical to the one that died, Windows usually will not boot, and it will crash. What's happening is that your Windows is crashing to a blue screen but it's flashing by so quick that you don't see it. Remove all CDs from the drives, press F8 when booting for the Boot Options menu and select 'Disable automatic restart on system failure'. When the error occurs, it should stop on the error and show you what it is. One plus: a repair install of Windows works most of the time when a major hardware change takes place and you will have all your programs, games, and personal data intact. Just boot to your XP install disc and follow the steps in this link:

    Thanks dlb

I did as you said and the system is stopping and showing BAD-SYSTEM-CONFIG_INFO.

Where do I go from here?

As per the instructions you linked to I put the XP CD in my CDROM and set the CDROM to boot first but it didn't boot. Is there a way I can get it to boot?

If you have more than one rom drive on your PC, try putting the disk in the other drive and boot from there. I have had problems booting from a secondary rom drive, only the primary would boot.

Some disks will boot automatically (maxtor or seagate hard drive tools) others will show you a message for a short while for you to click any key to boot from cd (XP install disk). This is because the XP install disk will go thru many restarts before it finishes but only the first time will it need the cd to start, from that point on you don't press "any key" anymore. But a utility like a hard drive diagnostics is a run once program that doesn't need to restart so it can boot directly and when your done your done.

If you could post the error number, it would be helpful. It should look like "STOP:0x0000007F" or something similar.
Hmmm..... depending on the PC, sometimes the screen will clear and you'll see "Press any key to boot from CD...." and you'll press any key. But with some PCs, the screen won't clear and this prompt may be hidden within some technical jargon coming from the motherboard during the power up process. It will still say "Press any key to boot from CD..." but it won't be as easy to spot, so you have to be on your toes... Additionally, some PCs will have a key you can press for a boot device menu. For example, many Dell PCs will say "Press <F2> for setup; <F12> for boot selection" and when you press F12 you get a list of devices to boot to. My PC uses F10 for the boot device menu. Not all PCs or motherboards have this option, but it is becoming more and more popular. So read all the text that comes on-screen when you power up. You can also try setting the boot order so the CD drive is the first and second boot device. Some BIOSes will allow this, and some won't. You can try and see what happens. If you have a floppy drive, you can create a set of 6 boot floppies that will start the set up process if your CD will not boot. You'll still need the XP disc, but you don't have to boot to it if you use the floppies. You can download the set from here:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310994/en-us
Scroll down and you'll see the different sets available. You have to load the correct one to match your CD; for example, Windows XP Home SP1 or Windows XP Pro SP2.... whatever is the same as the version on your CD.

I hope this helps! Good luck, and keep us posted!
