I just bought this intel 845G mobo ... the problem is it will not power up until I take out the CMOS battery and put it back in. Can anyone tell me why and how to correct it?:confused

Battery could be dead. Try to check it with a multimeter.

It's a brand new battery. I tried to clear the CMOS by moving that pin ... but it didn't work ... I went to intel and used and ID tool for my board ... it claims it is a D845GRG ... but the board drawing that state were the led connection go are not on the board ... here is the site with the info

Very strange that it will not post with the battery in it. Unlikely but the battery could be dead would be my first guess.

The battery is brand new and I tried two different brand new battery ... so that's not the problem.

I found driver and bios updates at the intel site. They don't recommend using the bios update unless something is wrong ... which there is ... but I'm still leary about using it. Do you think it will solve my problem?
In the mean time I'm going to install the updated drivers and see if I can get the sound going.rolleyes

From the bios string it looks like this is a gateway board and intel no longer lays claim to it. The trouble is I don't know which model gateway used this board. Is this why I have to remove and replace the battery to get it to power up?
I couldn't install the intel audio driver because it doesn't recognize the driver. I have a sound card, but I could get it to work ... I disable the sound in the BIOS, but still nothing ... should I go back to that, and try again?:cry

Is it a Intel or gateway board? If you bought it and it come in a retail box the box should say Intel it on it.

I don't think a bios update would help you. I'm thinking it's an issue with the CMOS on the motherboard if it refuses to boot with the battery in it but if you take it out it boots fine. If it's brand new you may want to return it for a replacement.

Have you got the jumper in the wrong place?

It's definitely a gateway board ... a poster ask where I got it and the site has a link at the bottom to the drivers ... the link is to gateway, but I never thought I would be having problems because my computer isn't a gateway. It doesn't say anything about it. But it looks like those are the drivers I need. One poster say I would have to reinstall windows is this true?:cry

I got my sound back finally ... I put the sound card I had (diamond dt-688) back in ... finally found a site with the driver that I could download with out having to deal with that stinking driver detector software ... then installed the drivers ... sound again! ...now the only thing is the start up problem ... I can live without the led lights, but I don't want to keep taking the battery out to boot up.

I found info about the power connections ... check it

    Power connections

These were the pins I was telling you about ...
    Front panel USB
Now that I know what they are all I need do now is figure out how to get them to work ...
and is the connection in a roll or up and down?:confused

... also I found that the mock intel gateway board will only support 1G of ram while the real intel board will support 2G ... why on earth would the reduce the ram capacity? That makes no sense at all:mad:boxing:crybaby
