new monitor not working, any clues?

About 3 days ago I just finished building my new computer; with only windows on it. I just got a viewsonic g220fb monitor today, attempted to load my motherboard drivers. I got half way through, and then the monitor goes into sleep mode. It will not come out of it, the yellow standby light is on, so it gets power. I know the computer is ok, b/c I built it at work and used their monitors to load windows. My gpu is a geforce 6800gt. Any compatibilty problems anyone has heard of? Any suggestions, or advice? Thanks.
