I put in my new board. XP Pro retail. Attempting a XP repair. I have the BIOS set to boot order as noted by http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm#RI.
CD, HD, floppy. I have the HD as master and CD as slave on my IDE cable. My HD is jumped as master and CD as slave. It boots like this:
    1. BIOS Screen. Master and secondary identified.
    2. Next screen says "Sorry for the inconvience...etc with these 5 options-
    Safe mode
    safe mode with networking
    safe mode with command prompt
    last known good connection
    start windows normally.
Selecting 1, 3, 4 & 5 just puts it into reboot and back again.

    3. Safe and normal choice just reboots and the cycle starts all over again with same results.
The only way I can get to the blue XP setup screen is to unplug my HD. Only then will it read the CD. It will get to the repair option screen but what good will that do if my HD is unplugged?
I exited, F3, because I didn't think it would do anything with the HD unplgged. Logic dictates if HD is unplugged, no data will be sent to HD. Right?
I even tried to put my board disk thinking it would load drivers then be
able to do XP but no.
    Suggestions please.

It sounds to me as if the computer is booting from the hard drive first. Have another look at your BIOS options.

Be aware, however, that it is recommended to do a clean install of XP when you have changed out a critical component like the motherboard.

Set your CDrom to master and put your harddrive and cdrom on a different IDE cables and seperate channels,IDE 0 and IDE 1.

Well it won't boot from CD to HD so I pulled the HD and put it in a external USB holder and now it's repairing. Still may have a problem though. I'll see when it gets one. Pray.

I see that you say XP Pro Retail, but is it possible that it is an OEM install that you had? If so, you can't fix it, as the new motherboard would no longer qualify it for it's current license (I went through this this my Wife's computer). The only way an OEM would accept a new motherboard is if it is the exact same as the one being replaced. I would agree collinsl:

Nope. I went to Office Depot and bought it off the shelf. Remember, I built this myself.

Now the XP Pro SP2 retail version repair (NOT OEM) stalls at 32%. Ideas. See earlier posts.

This could indicate a fault with one of the devices plugged into the computer.

Could you please list the make and model of ALL hardware within the PC?

Only other time I've seen this it was the CD drive,if you have a spare drive try it,a scratched disk can cause this also.

Usually if its the hard drive it will stall at random places but I have seen hard drive cause this also,if its a device in the computer it will usually hard lock and the animation would stop but I guess its not out of the realm of possibility.
