Well, this thing keeps showing up in hijackthis and states that spybot search and destroy would automatically remove this, but it does not even find it. It found it once on LSPfix and I removed, but now it does not find it.

Could this keep me from viewing files in Windows Media player? Because I've been having problems with the player lately when this NEW.net first appeared. Also, at times my browser would just disappear. Not often, but sometimes.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

Oh I have done everything in the "READ ME FIRST" thread.

First, please follow ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal

If you already have any of the programs linked in the tutorial please double check your version to make sure you have the latest one and that you have any/all updates for the programs.

NOTE: In order to resolve the issues you are having it is very important that you at least try to perform all the steps as outlined. If you have any difficulty please post back letting us know what steps you have completed, what you found while doing the scans if anything and details about any problems you have encountered in completing the steps. The more details you can provide the better.

After doing ALL of the above if you still have a problem

Make sure you have HijackThis 1.99 and follow the guidelines on where to install it and how to post a log as an attachment. This is all covered in the sticky thread NO HIJACK THIS LOG FILES BEFORE READING THIS: HJT Tutorial & LOG File Posting

Now post a HijackThis as a .txt file attachment to your message. All running programs should be closed, including your web browser, e-mail. Close before running Hijack This!

Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file. Place it in its own folder, for example C:\Program Files\HJT

    Hi UVA,

Wouldn't you know it, but Spybot is set by default to ignore New.NET. Please remedy that by fixing SpyBot's Ignore Products Bug:

Please run SpyBot and get into the Advanced mode by selecting Mode and then Advanced mode. Then select Settings and the in the left column select Ignore Products.
In the right window pane make sure the All products tab is selected. Then in that window, right click your mouse and choose "Deselect all".

Now in the left pane click at the top on SpyBot S&D and then choose Search for Updates. Download any updates required. Now click Check for Problems. Fix any that are found.

See if that fixes the New.Net issue.

Then, please send us a HijackThis Log. Please be sure to follow the instructions below:

Note that your HijackThis should be up-to-date (v1.99) and MUST be extracted to its own safe folder – C:\Program Files\HijackThis!

If you need a Fresh Download of HJT, get it HERE: HijackThis v1.99

Also note that, before you scan, you MUST close all running programs including your web browser, e-mail and items in the system tray.

Please save your HJT Log as a .txt File and attach it via the "Manage Attachments" tool in the Additional Options section when you post.

I am not around too often these days, but somebody should be able to assist you.

    PP :)

First thing you need to do is get your updates from Microsoft, you need at least WinXP SP1a. I suggest you install WinXP Service Pack 2 ASAP to get all the latest security fixes. Your log looks ok to me as of right now. Are you currently still experiencing problems, if so let me know what the exact problem is.

Im still having issues with Media player, but Im still trying to narrow down the suspects.

As far as homepage redirecting, pop-ups, and such, Im not experiencing any of those.

    Thanks again!

First, What version of Windows Media Player are you using?

Second, What problems exactly are you experiencing with Media Player?

    Windows Media Player 10

When I click on a file (.avi, .wmv, .mpg, etc.) the border of my browser goes gray (indicating it is not the top window) and the player doesn't show up. This happens after I play about 2-3 files. Sometimes I would have to reboot to get it operating again.

Are you having problems with anything other than Windows Media Player? Im not really following you on your exact problem, can you give me a better explanation on whats exactly taking place? When it doesnt come up or whatever do you recieve any error messages?

I just rebooted my computer and its opening now.

Before, it just didn't open. No error messages or anything. The border of my web browser turns to a lighter shade and nothing appears.

Im not having any other issues besides this one.

First thing I do notice is that you do not have a service pack installed. You need to at LEAST have WinXP Service Pack 1a installed. I recommend you to install WinXP Service Pack 2 ASAP to get the security fixes that you currently do not have which makes you vulnerable to malware and others things as well. This could fix your issues with media player.

If your still experiencing the problem with Media Player and do not want to install the service pack, lets try to uninstall it and reinstall a new copy. To do this follow below:

    1) In Control Panel click Add or Remove Programs

    2) Locate "Windows Media Player 10"

    3) Uninstall, Reboot

4)After uninstall and reboot download a fresh copy of Windows Media Player 10
5)Install, Reboot and see if problem remains.
