new p.c

Hi, i am in japan and my old Vaio with Windows ME has finally packed up.

I don't know so much so could someone please give me a pointer as to what:

1. I should look for as a basic spec in a new p.c

2. any recommendations as to p.c.

I am just wanting to surf the net, look at some media....dont want to break the bank...good value p.cs...Dell? (thay mail internatoinally i hear, would like an English OS)...how about this brand Acer I see....cheap....bad?

How cheap are you wanting? You can build an internet surfing/light use machine for very little money. What do you want to be able to do with it now and in 6 months or so?

Are you wanting a desktop or laptop?

When I saw this I was pissed... If you buy these computers you can part them out and buy new MOBO and Ram and there you go new system.
