i upgraded to a p4 478 pin 3.2ghz ht presscott 800 fsb cpu on a asus p4p800e deluxe mother board , and was wondering what is considered good to normal operating temps? so far while gaming from what i can tell is around 130f. my other p4 2.8ghz non ht 533 fsb maxed out at 105f. also now in device manager it shows as i have 2 cpus? everything works great aside from i still get a tcp net driver socket failed message while gaming online even though i used all new driver for everything on the new m/b that i mentioned in another thread somewhere. not sure how to fix that. doesnt mess up while on like aol or anything only gaming online and ive reinstalled the game 3 times. one last thing is speed fan detect a lot of temps with this new m/b. some reading-32f im guessing i got the right temp for the cpu it fluctuates the most when on and off load, but im stuck trying to figure out what one listed local temp. ive named the temps from my other m/b as case/cpu/hd. but there there but not sure where this other local temp reading is from. sorry if i confused anyone lol just trying to understand all this myself. thanks in advance for any help

Hi, i can help with your temperature's questions but not with the rest, lol

Im currently running a p4 478 3.0 ghz with the msi neo 2 platinum edition mobo. With my stock cooler on and low-medium load it was operating at around 55-65, high i know, lol it maxed out at 86 (90 being critcal). Msi's corecenter gives the user the option to set alarms at certain degrees so you know when ur chip is hot enough to cook eggs on! And also as a precaution reboots your pc at the setting, for obvious reasons. After purchasing the Gigabyte G-power Pro. . .

    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/copy_of_Gigabyte.html (top)

I found a large improvement. Now under medium load it idles between 40 and 50 degrees, and has never hit 70, with an all-time low record of 38 degrees.

Todays processor chips especially intel get incredibly hot.

The stock coolers that come with them arent cut out to cool the chips well enough. Best bet is to dump the stock and invest in a better one, there are some good options out there and good looking too , for the case modder. If you have a brief case of money thats screaming to be spent, go for water cooling.

    Hope this helps.

I agree! I have the same processor and mobo as Ben, and the stock heat sink SUCKS
    I put

this monster in my desktop, and have been VERY happy with it...it's quieter, and MUCH, MUCH cooler...it brought my temps down about 40C...

You can get reasonably priced water cooling systems, however. Just shop around! Check www.canadacomputers.com if you don't believe me.

Oh! And don't forget the artic silver 5! Beautiful little paste that shtuff is.

Or you might want to look at Peltier cooling.
A good Peltier cooler can get your cpu into the freezing range.
Just make sure you are thorough with the silicon sealant
around the cpu base. You don't want condensation to work its
    way around to the pins.
The neat thing about a good Peltier setup is that you can vary
the voltage for different temperature ranges.
Peltier cooling is cheaper than water cooling, without the risk of a flood.

Is the Event ID for TCP/IP 4226?

if so its an inbuilt safeguard against the thread of worms/trojans from spreading fast, so in SP2 MS restricted the number of concurrent connections you can make at once to 10, you can however overcome this with this patch http://mitglied.lycos.de/lvllord/download-mirror.htm ( original site down at presenthttp://www.lvllord.de/ so no FAQ ) but this will give you more info on patch and why your restricted by XP SP2 http://www.speedguide.net/read_articles.php?id=1497

BUT patch is used are users own risk, altho I've never had a problem with it.

the message i get isnt from windows i dont think cause the message box is colored like the games menus and the message i get is (networking failed tcp netdriver: socket failed 275918416). thanks for everyones input ill look into an aftermarket cooler. i wonder why intel cheaps out on the heat sinks if cpus get so hot these days, save money i guess. thanks ohhh my internet connection is ethernet not usb if that matters.

Open Control Panel, Double-click administrative tools, double-click computer management click event viewer...everythings there.

Unless I've mistaken what Halo is talking about.

thanks i found it. had so many things in it was hard to tell whats what, so i cleared everything so when it does mess up i can find it. am i looking under security, app, or??? all of them. since im gonna look into an aftermarket cooler does anyone know of one that can use the original one that the oem clamps to? reason i ask is on my other board i installed one where it had a retention bracket that goes on back a metal one and ever since i did that board had a number of problems. i took it off and put the original back on and all was well. i did have the pad side of it to the board so im not sure what effect it had that caused probs. jeez just felt the heat sink on the i guess northbridge chip and even thats hotter than i thought it would be. does it ever end lol. ohh well my machine it much faster that my other guess that where the heat comes from.
