    Hello all,

I am building a new gaming PC. I want to try to overclock (for the very first time), and I am just not sure if these specs will run together. I am not sure if it is stupid of me to even pair this motherboard with this video card.

    + i7-950
    + GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD3R
    + XFX Radeon HD 6870 900MHZ 1GB 4.2GHZ
    + Corsair XMS3 TR3X6G1333C9 6GB

    + OCZ StealthXStream 2 700W ATX12V
+ Western Digital WD20EARS Caviar Green

    Thank you all in advance.

    Cheers,
    Bonnie

    Hi Bonnie,

I'd be thinking about getting a less 'green' hard drive for a gaming rig, maybe even an SSD for boot and a HDD for data.

I don't see any mention of an aftermarket CPU cooler, you're going to run a retail CPU and cooler? If so, overclocking would be limited, noisy and hot, I think.

Satrow.... I think I am lost.
You are saying I should get a faster HDD? SSD for boot is just a touch too expensive for now.

As for the cooler, do you have any you would recommend?

The bottleneck on any PC is the data transfer, the faster you can move data, the snappier Windows will feel. Green drives are built for low noise and low energy usage, they're fine for data storage and backup. They're not designed to be boot drives.

A standard drive is likely to perform around 20% faster than a green drive.

As for cooling, take a look at FrostyTech.

I wouldn't add water cooling into the mix if I were you, it may add more problems than it fixes.

I think I will go with:

    Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1500GB 1.5TB SATA2 7200RPM 32MB Cache NCQ Hard Drive OEM

    Hyper 212+
