New pc no sound

Hi, I have just set up my new pc and plugged my old speakers in from my old pc. It is showing that the sound should be on but there is no sound. Any ideas I have looked at all the boxes that I think I should have checked but no luck. My daughter wants to play her new pc game but I need some help anybody?? Thanks

Sorry if these questions sound stupid but you never know:

1. What output are the speakers plugged into? i.e. bottom centre (Where they normally should be), 3rd from left etc

2. What is the make and model of the computer please?
