I'm going to get either a 3700 sandiego core or a 4000 sandiego core socket 939 chip any ideas on m/b and powersupply? Must have pci-e . Any help would be apreciated since I've never built an AMD system before.

A lot of people underestimate the importance of a good power supply.

My advice is, buy the very best one you can afford, especially with todays power-hungry video cards.

    CPU is a good choice.

For motherboard, do you have a price range, and what do you intend to use the PC for?

thx for the replies. It will be mainly for gaming. May get another msi 6600gt for sli as far as price range 100 to 150 max on mobo. what should be the minimum power on 12v rail for sli rig? Intel rig I'm running 22amps on the 12v rail (power hungry chip)

you want a psu with over 30 amps on th 12v,all good quality psu's have that much these days, make sure its atx 2.0 psu,I'm still love tagan,Although I'v only ever owned one and it didnt work :D

the tagan 2force are even better, but I cant find one on newegg

I also love the ultra modular psu's if you want a little more style

I've never heard of Aspire. That doesn't mean they aren't any good.

    Enermax has a good reputation.

As far as motherboard, look for one with an nVidia nForce 4 chipset.

It's currently the best socket 939 chipset.

You have to look at quality not watts,a 500watt enermax is fine, once you get up toward the 5-6-7 region, your computer will become very inefficient,to you thats means paying for alot of electricity,I would put a 600 noisetaker only in a really high end system with alot of harddrives ect

Also, the AMD is going to run hotter than your Pentium chips. I recommend picking up a tasty cooler and give your case the once over to be sure the air flow is still adequate.

AMD Mobo I use Asus exclusively. I've built about a dozen form the A7N8X family and all fired up first boot and are still motoring.

Like they said, re: the PSU... best you can buy is always great advice.

    Good Luck!

GREAT bargain on a PSU for your build. Might take a look: 500 Watt!

I agree only a single 30 amp 12v rail as opposed to all new atx 2 dual rail 12v,the tagan I posted for eg has 40 amps on 2 seperate rails
