new pc

i'm replacing my pc because its got too slow & i'v backed up all my documents & programs to my external hard drive for transfer. Is there a program that will save my windows settings, explorer settings & all the connection setting & details for my broadband?

 

XP and Vista (as well as Windows 7) have a ' Files and Settings Transfer Wizard' precisely for the circumstances you describe. Just take the time - depending on what OS you currently have - to investigate it.
Aside from that, unless your current system is very very old, you should first seek help here on how to speed up your existing system before you splash out money on a new one.

thanks theramin, found it & it was pretty easy 2 save the settings, shame it doesn't save all the router settings tho. yeah it is about 5 years old & i keep it clean from crap but i think time takes its toll on the components, it makes a fair bit of noise when im using it. i'll actually be changing to exactly the same model (basically i bought 2 of them on offer & ended up never used th other one) but i'll upgrade the ram as it only has 512 ddr.
What do you recomend i up it to? It has an AMD athlon 64 3000+ processor.

 

Assuming XP with SP3, 1GB is good for this. Even 2GB if you can afford it, but 1 will work fine.

 

tried to transfer the settings to the new pc using 'Files and Settings Transfer Wizard' but when i tell it to use the file i saved i get the message "the location specified does not contain stored information please type a valid path". Any ideas whats going on with it?

 

btw i'v installed sp3 & & running ie8 if it makes any difference & still won't open the file?
